JUST CURIOUS

Postby marmalade » February 10th, 2012, 7:37 am

Hey Y'all,

In the last discussion and just watching the board, in general, I have one question that keeps knocking around in my head. What makes our little group different from all the other Andy Kim fans out there?

The online world has been like a snowball in the last few years. It seems like only yesterday when I rediscovered Andy in the old forum. It's really been over five years, during which I've learned so much about all the music I'd admired for years and the man behind it. In the beginning, I remember all of us being thrilled when we found any photograph or little bit of information about Andy. We couldn't wait to share it. Now, his music and videos and interviews are much more accessible. The crowds at the concerts have been large and enthusiastic. New fans have joined this forum, but over and over, the same tight little group keeps checking in here in hopes of finding an interesting discussion, a post from Andy or an entry in his diary or new pictures in the gallery.

When others come and go and Andy is busy making music, what makes us keep coming back here? I've said it before but I'll say it again. For me, it's still the music. I'd love to see Andy in concert again. I'd love to sit and talk to him. I'd love to know more. In the end though, it's those songs, from the very first to the most recent. Some I like more than others but there's not a stinker in the bunch. And then, there's AMOUR. For me, it is and will always be in a class by itself. When you pick them all apart, there may be others that are more perfectly composed but still, it's always AMOUR. Then there's RMG. It's not only perfectly composed and executed but obviously has an intense effect on the listener.....music, lyrics, beat, backup, intro, everything. In a big room crammed full of rocking, singing fans, it seems as if everyone's heartbeat is in sync with Andy's. Such an experience and such a finale in any concert.

So, what keeps you coming back? Is it the hope that Andy will post a comment or a discussion? Is it to keep in touch with old friends who have this place in common? Is it to discuss old memories? I'd love to know.

Later,
Fran

All the above ..I LOVE LOVE LOVE all of his music ..Some of my faves are the very old ones but I love the new stuff too ..But the answer to the question is Him ,Andy ..That is what has brought me here and that is what has kept me here ..When I saw Andy for the first time I was going to the concert to see Mark Lindsay but when I left I was not thinking of Mark I could not keep my heart from feeling and thinking about Andy ...That is the reason I bought a computer ..To see what was happening with Andy to keep up on all I could about him ..I later was shown by a friend the beginings of the original Fan Forum .I bought my computer the next day ..I was there before the forum was even opened ..It just had the opening page and it said in progress or something like that ..I went there every day sometimes more than once a day to see if it was up and running ..Oh what great memories ,those days were wonderful ♥
Fran I was going to start a new topic about Amour .. But this is a good one so I will just say it here ...This is the month of Amour I wish eveyone a great Day of Amour --Happy Valentine's Day to all ..

Hey Neia,

I saw your post of Amour on FB. I might just swipe it from you for Valentine's Day. Do I remember your telling me you'd seen a video of Andy sitting at the piano, playing and singing AMOUR? If so, wouldn't we love to get our hands on that?

Do you remember what year the old forum started? I joined in December, 2006, just a few days after Andy's birthday. It was on a weekend, when I didn't have to go to work the next day and I sat up most of the night reading the old posts. I remember the chat you all did. I didn't post anything for a couple of weeks but it didn't take long for me to feel very much at home there. You were all discussing the things I'd wondered about and all the music I remembered. I had visited a lot of other fan sites but had never joined any of them. For one thing, they didn't have the Andy element, of course. Also, they didn't have the comfortable atmosphere of our forum.

When I joined, my intention was to gather information for my own use.....mostly where to get some of Andy's music I hadn't been able to put my hands on. I had no idea I'd end up in Canada, not just once but twice. What wonderful experiences. The only thing that was missing was to hear Andy sing AMOUR, live. I'd still love to see and hear that.

Ah, yes. The month of Amour. I agree. I hope everyone has a very Happy Valentine's Day.

I don't remember a video with Andy playing and singing Amour ..I too would be so happy to see Andy sing Amour in person that would be amazing ...It is a wonderful song ..There are others that I would love to see him sing♥
I bought my computer July 5, 2003 so that is when the forum was starting ..I don't remember how long it took for it to really get up and going ..It seems like it was quite a while ..I have not went into the old forum for a long long time and I am not even sure it is still there but I know it was still there for a while after this one started ..I too have tried to join other fan pages and they are not open and do not feel like home ..Most of the post in the others I don't even understand what they are talking about ..This is a special place ..I love the fans and the talk but as I said before the reason I came here was for the man not especially his music ..But I do love his music ..

I probably knew the old forum had been there for that long by the dates on the posts but I'd forgotten. I'm pretty sure it's not there anymore. I had saved the old link and I'd check back in every now and then but one day it didn't work. I guess it's gone for good.

Someone else must have told me about that video or.......I'm imagining it. Could be either. @8^)

Hey Jody,

You're so right. If it weren't for Andy, I'd never have met any of you fellow fans. He wanted us to have a community and he accomplished that.

I had a computer long before the old forum but my ability to search the Internet and figure out what was good and bad there increased very quickly when I joined the forum. What a great way to learn some good lessons.

You have a HAPPY AMOUR DAY too, Jody.

Well I had my computer in March 2003 and I joined the forum around the same time as Neia I think. I know it hadnt been going very long when I joined. The reasons we all keep coming back is to see if Andy has posted anything and if he hasnt then we catch up with the lifelong friends we have made on this forum. I know most of us are on Facebook and chat on there but the forum is more like a family. I dont think that even when Andy created this forum that he realised just how much most of us would get on and become such good friends. I have a lot to thank him for not just his music but the friends I would never have had if it wasnt for him.
So THANK YOU ANDY.
Love Jill xxx

Thanks Neia. I think I will, on Tuesday.

Jill, I thought I remembered that both of you joined about the same time. Of course, there's a lot I don't know about the really early days. I'd like to know how both of you and others found out about the old forum.

I'm sure I've said this more than once but I was just doing a routine search of Canada in general and the Maritimes in particular and saw Andy on an oldies commercial, all at the same time. It all came together at the right time. One more search and I found the forum.

I felt at home from the very beginning. Di was the first to welcome me, then one after the other, you introduced yourselves. Most of us can contact each other by e-mail or on other sites but one thing I miss here is private messaging. If we felt that someone wasn't well or having a problem we might help with, we could just send a message and got e-mail notification when it was answered.

Also, notifications are getting better for discussions we've started or posted in but they're still spotty for me. In the beginning, I blamed it on Hughes but I've had another Internet provider for several months now. In this thread, I was notified after each post, except the last one. Dunno.

Later Y'all,

Love,
Fran
