Hey Y'all,
In the last discussion and just watching the board, in general, I have one question that keeps knocking around in my head. What makes our little group different from all the other Andy Kim fans out there?
The online world has been like a snowball in the last few years. It seems like only yesterday when I rediscovered Andy in the old forum. It's really been over five years, during which I've learned so much about all the music I'd admired for years and the man behind it. In the beginning, I remember all of us being thrilled when we found any photograph or little bit of information about Andy. We couldn't wait to share it. Now, his music and videos and interviews are much more accessible. The crowds at the concerts have been large and enthusiastic. New fans have joined this forum, but over and over, the same tight little group keeps checking in here in hopes of finding an interesting discussion, a post from Andy or an entry in his diary or new pictures in the gallery.
When others come and go and Andy is busy making music, what makes us keep coming back here? I've said it before but I'll say it again. For me, it's still the music. I'd love to see Andy in concert again. I'd love to sit and talk to him. I'd love to know more. In the end though, it's those songs, from the very first to the most recent. Some I like more than others but there's not a stinker in the bunch. And then, there's AMOUR. For me, it is and will always be in a class by itself. When you pick them all apart, there may be others that are more perfectly composed but still, it's always AMOUR. Then there's RMG. It's not only perfectly composed and executed but obviously has an intense effect on the listener.....music, lyrics, beat, backup, intro, everything. In a big room crammed full of rocking, singing fans, it seems as if everyone's heartbeat is in sync with Andy's. Such an experience and such a finale in any concert.
So, what keeps you coming back? Is it the hope that Andy will post a comment or a discussion? Is it to keep in touch with old friends who have this place in common? Is it to discuss old memories? I'd love to know.
Later,
Fran
